Effective strategies for everyday injuries

Sprains & Strains

Physiotherapy and medical acupuncture can help relieve the discomfort rooted in everyday strains, sprains, and pains.

Our day to day work lives can take a toll on our bodies. Be it by sitting at a desk or swinging a hammer, injuries can accumulate through some of our most familiar activities.

Sore shoulders, lower backs, sprained ankles, and other general aches and pains;

They’re common problems that physio and medical acupuncturists are accustom to dealing with.  Sometimes muscle or tendon strains are the result of many years’ worth of sitting at a computer desk or carrying materials and tools to and from a site.  Other times joint or ligament sprains happen out on the field, cycling, or when stepping off a sudden curb.  Yet other times, it feels like you’ve just run into a wall.

Physiotherapy and medical acupuncture can help you down the road to rehabilitation.

Physio Assessments & Treatments

Assessment of Injuries

Strains are described as a stretching or tearing of muscle or tendon. They can be extremely painful or achy and are often more painful after activity. Repetitive strains are defined as an overuse problem. They occur under prolonged stress in a particular area. These injuries can often cascade into other problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, commonly known in the arm as tennis elbow.

Sprains are described as an over-extension of the connective tissue called ligaments, which help hold your joints together while they provide your range of motions. A sprain is usually accompanied by pain, bruising, swelling, and a temporary loss of use.

Assessing your injuries is the first step in your rehabilitation. Our medical acupuncturists and registered physiotherapists will review any medical documentation you may have, the circumstances of your injury, and assess your pain and motions in an effort to identify the best course of treatment.
