BScPT, MErg, PhD (Ergonomics & Human Factors)

Olubukola (Bukky) Mayomi

“Friendly patient-specific care is at the heart of my practice. I work with the patients, educating them as we go on, so they can take the active role in their recovery.”

Bukky completed her Bachelors in Physiotherapy in University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 2000 after which she practiced physiotherapy in The Presidency, State House Clinic.

In her desire to further help her patients, she went to England to study, completing her PhD in Ergonomics and Human Factors at Loughborough University. This gave her a better understanding of the interaction between the people and the environment, which has helped her practice to consider factors and interactions that could contribute to the presenting injury complaint. While in England she practiced as a physiotherapist in private practice before coming to Canada.

Since coming to Victoria, she has worked with employers in understanding the causes of workers injuries using the ergonomics and human factors lens as well as in home and community care, guiding patients through prescribed exercises post-surgery.

Bukky is patient and has experience working with a diverse population ranging from geriatrics to pediatrics, including athletes. Specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions using an evidence-based approach, she uses her knowledge of exercise therapy, alexander technique and manual therapy as well as human factors in the management of patient conditions.

Dedicated to ongoing learning, she is looking forward to studying acupuncture and vestibular rehabilitation and incorporating those therapies into her practice to further help her patients.

Bukky says “I love data, so in my free time I code and model (structure) data into digital computer charts; apart from chilling outdoors with my 5-year-old daughter Ini, friends and family.”
