What to Expect on Your First Appointment

Assess Your Injuries & Review Your Goals

Assessing your injuries is the first step in your rehabilitation.

Our IMS practitioner and registered physiotherapists will review any medical documentation you may have, the circumstances of your injury, and assess your pain and motions so that they can identify the best course of treatment.

We’ll also ask you about your life and your personal goals for treatment. Every patient is different and we always tailor our approach to the person.

Once we’ve identified your injury and the pains, motions, and timeline we can begin to navigate your recovery.

Answer Your Questions & Explain What’s Happening

Through your assessment and treatment, your professional physiotherapist is here to answer questions and help educate you regarding your injuries, treatment, and recovery.

If you have questions, please feel free to ask!

We’re here to teach you new ways to use your body that can reduce strain on your muscles, tendons, and ligaments; this often refers to posture and general habits or ergonomics. We will review your goals and put you on a path towards them, armed with knowledge about your body.

Knowledge is power and we want to help you understand not only your injury but how to move forward afterwards.

Develop a Personalized Treatment Plan

Treatments and strategies to aid in your recovery after an injury are diverse. Your Langford Physio professional therapist and/or IMS practitioner will develop a personalized plan for you – based on your injuries, your goals, your insurance coverage, and your preferences.

We will provide an estimated timeline for treatments, frequency of appointments, and what to expect along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Physiotherapy and your extended health care plan

The majority of clients who seek physiotherapy treatments have coverage under their extended healthcare plans. These plans are usually provided by their place of employment. If your company does not provide this, you may still have coverage under your partner or spouse’s work plan. Physiotherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture or naturopathy are listed under the heading of “Paramedical” or “Supplementary Benefits”.

When assessing the treatment amount that is covered you will need to look closely at the wording. Some cover a percentage of the treatment with a maximum coverage for the year. Others may just have a maximum dollar amount they will cover, while others may just cover a certain amount of treatments. The best thing to do is ask your human resources person, or call your extended health provider. Most extended health providers also have online portals providing details of your coverage. The client is responsible for any amount not covered by their insurer. We will give a receipt at each visit for fees paid which may be tax deductible. See our fee page for further information.

MSP and Physiotherapy

The MSP covers a total of 10 treatments per calendar year. These treatments are shared between physiotherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, naturopathy, chiropractic and non surgical podiatry. Each treatment is only covered for $23. At our clinic, if you are eligible for this coverage, we directly bill MSP for $23.00, with the client paying a supplemental user fee of $40.00 per visit.

ICBC Physiotherapy Rehabilitation

We bill ICBC directly for authorized treatments. If you have coverage through ICBC for a bodily injury claim, and you are entitled to treatments, you may begin physiotherapy immediately after you report your claim to ICBC. You will need your ICBC claim number and date of the accident prior to booking an appointment. For physiotherapy, ICBC pre-approves 25 visits, over twelve weeks starting on the date of the accident. If your physiotherapist determines you require treatment beyond the 12 weeks, a new treatment plan with the request will be sent to ICBC for authorization.

We direct bill many 3rd-party insurers; call us to find out if your insurer is eligible for direct billing at our clinic.
